The Spa Business Association was launched in March 2004 to unite the myriad businesses involved in the rapidly expanding spa sector in the UK and Ireland, and to represent them with "one voice" to government, to the consumer and to the industry itself. Developed from the British Spas Federation, which had been in existence since 1917 to promote the benefits of using spas for health and well-being, the Association has an ambitious set of objectives and a new membership structure.
Spa Business Association's mission statement:
'A collaborative, not for profit association for the mutual benefit of owners, operators and all those employed in, dependent upon, or supplying the Spa industry, and for all spa users'
'To provide one strong voice to engage communicators, opinion formers, government bodies and legislators to the benefit of the Spa industry, its members and the public.'
'To encourage the highest standards of probity and good governance among its members, leading by example in its own dealings and communications'
Chairmen, Suki Kalirai is joined by a dynamic board drawn from spa town local authorities, commercial operators and individuals.
Sub-groups examine areas which need particular attention, such as Education, Quality Standards, Accreditation, Marketing and collection of industry data.
