The last ten years has seen an enormous growth in the UK & Ireland beauty industry placing pressure on the education system to produce more qualified beauty therapists than ever before. This demand is predicted to continue and increase as more spas and salons enter the beauty and pampering business month by month, and could even limit the growth of the market.
Colleges, universities, accredited therapist and beauty organisations and product houses themselves all provide training courses of different levels and intensities, resulting in a wide choice of training pathways for therapists and would-be spa workers.
The predicted need for more highly trained therapists and spa managers and in greater quantities will become increasingly urgent, and it is one of the aims of the Spa Business Association to help to ease this situation for employers. Therapists will also benefit from an initiative to provide a register, and in time from a system of quality standards being developed for the spa industry, as well as some useful ideas of how to reduce the risk of injury at work.
